Affirmations: Powerful Little Pep Talks for Your Brain

Hi everyone! Have you ever heard of affirmations? Affirmations are simple, positive statements that we repeat to ourselves to provide encouragement and motivation. And did you know that they are based on science?

Our brain’s language is repetition. Whatever we say or think or do repeatedly sticks in our brain. When we practice doing something until our brain gets good at it, it becomes something we can do without even thinking.

The same thing happens when we tell ourselves something over and over again. Those messages stick in our brain, and we will automatically think those thoughts without even realizing it.

So, what we tell ourselves out loud or inside our heads matters! If we keep saying negative things like “What’s wrong with me? I can’t do anything right,” our brain will start to believe it. And this can affect our confidence and energy when trying to learn something new, play a challenging game, or figure out a solution to a problem.

But if we get into the habit of using affirmations, little positive messages that we say to ourselves, our brain will begin to believe what we say. When we repeat statements such as “I can do hard things” or “I am a kind and caring friend,” we encourage our brain to take these positive messages as facts. We start to believe in ourselves, and when that happens, our actions will follow.

So how can we use affirmations in our daily lives? First, choose an affirmation from a list or make one up that fits you. What do you want to get better at? How do you want to feel about yourself? Then, repeat it to yourself every time you see your reflection, when brushing your teeth or washing your hands. At first, it may seem awkward or weird, but if you stick with it, you will start to see some amazing things happen. You’ll be in a better mood, get along better with people, and improve your ability to learn and get things done. Plus, you will become more self-confident, and others will believe in you too!

Affirmations are not just for kids, but they can benefit everyone. As parents, teachers, or caregivers, we can help children develop positive thinking patterns by teaching them to use affirmations. By doing so, we can help them develop the confidence and resilience they need to face challenges and succeed in life.

So, let’s start using affirmations and see the power of positive thinking in action!
